Launch Night

The Prestwich Beer Festival, aka BeerPrest, is thrilled to announce a FANTASTIC line-up for its VIP Launch Night at The Longfield Suite, Prestwich on Thursday 25th February 2016.

Tony Walsh

The BeerPrest Launch Night will be hosted by Prestwich-based poet, Tony Walsh who’ll also be treating everyone to a selection of his poems throughout the evening. Tony is one of the UK’s most renowned performance poets and a respected writer, workshop leader and community organiser. He has been poet-in-residence at Glastonbury and features regularly on BBC1, BBC2, Sky, R2, R4, 5Live, 6 Music and XFM. “He’s the real deal!” (Benjamin Zephaniah).

Songs for Walter will be the opening act for the evening. This Manchester-based singer/songwriter, Laurie Hulme uses the moniker Songs for Walter in homage to his late grandfather, Walter whose memories and tales Laurie brings back to life through song and lo-fi creativity. “One of my favourite discoveries of recent years.” (Tom Ravenscroft, BBC 6 Music).

Tony Husband

During the intervals (in between the performers) cartoon legend, Tony Husband will be creating one-off cartoons in his Cartoon Confessional Box. Tony has been taking this unique idea around various UK Festivals for the past couple of years and it has proved to be a huge success. Guests are invited in to ‘confess their sins’ to Tony as he draws them a cartoon to illustrate them. “Tony Husband is one of the greats!”  (Stephen Fry). 

John Gordillo

Later in the evening, comedian, John Gordillo will be performing a set of his brilliant, original comedy. John is a Perrier-Award nominated comedian who has worked extensively with Eddie Izzard, Reginald D Hunter, Dylan Moran, Michael Mcintyre, Dara O’Briain and Ross Noble. His brand of intelligent comedy never lets the clever get in the way of the funny. ”Heartfelt, intellectual or angry, he’s dynamite”  (The Times).

Badly Drawn Boy

To end this special event, Badly Drawn Boy (aka Damon Gough) will be performing a set of his chosen favourites from his vast catalogue of tunes. Damon recently toured his classic, Mercury Prize Award-Winning Album, The Hour of the Bewilderbeast  ~ which made him a household name 15 years ago. Having recently curated (and headlined at) The Woodlands Stage at Festival No 6 in Portmeirion, Damon is now writing material for his new album. 

Jennie Platt

One of the new attractions for BeerPrest 2016, is a special Artisan Gin & Fizz Bar, sponsored by Jennie Platt Estates. Jennie will also be running a special masterclass during BeerPrest 2016, whereby people can learn to create gin-based cocktails. 

Tickets for the VIP Launch Night will be £12 in advance (£15 on the door, subject to capacity). They will be available from 1st December 2015 via this website
